IMO it’s time for another Business English post. I.e a blog entry about abbreviations. FYI an abbreviation is a shortened or contracted form of a word or phrase e.g Tues and an acronym is a word formed from the initial letters or groups of letters e.g FAO which means For The Attention Of and might be written on an invoice. In reality most people use the two terms interchangeably. There are abbreviations used for specific industries or areas of business – e.g. MIFID – Markets In Financial Instruments Directive used in compliance.

Today we’ll be looking at some common business ones that can be used in any business situation. If you learn this list, you’ll never be left scratching your head again as to what VAT or btw means.
